Former long jump world champion Luvo Manyonga (30) has been banned for four years for violating the reporting requirements for doping tests, so the South African will miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo (23 July to 8 August) and Paris 2024. The ban begins retrospectively on December 23, 2020 and ends on December 22, 2024.
The sentence was announced on Friday by the AIU independent integrity commission of the World Athletics Federation (WA).
Manyonga can take legal action against the judgment before the International Court of Justice for Sports (CAS).
Manyonga was provisionally suspended in January.
Now the ban followed, to which a "missed test" and two reporting violations led.
Manyonga's lawyers had argued that their client could give reasons for the missed test.
This rejected the independent integrity commission AIU of the world association.
The athletes must report their whereabouts for a period of one hour every day in order to be available for unannounced doping tests.
Manyonga struggled early in his career with drug problems that resulted in an 18-month ban after testing positive for amphetamines for abuse of Tik, a South African variant of crystal meth.
Then he advanced to world class in terms of sport.
In 2016 he won silver at the Olympic Games in Rio, and gold at the World Cup in London a year later.
His best performance stands at 8.65 meters.
In 2019, Manyonga only finished fourth in Doha.
