The Scottish midfielder, valiant and tactically superior
At first a little overwhelmed by the technical superiority of the English, the three Scottish midfielder managed to find his rhythm.
Combining good physical intensity, without falling into exaggeration, and an interesting propensity for conservation, the visitors' midfield sometimes thwarted the opponent.
Rarely impressive, for a long time they tactically dominated the English who foiled in this sector of the game. They fought with their weapons and got what they wanted.
Mason Mount, good ideas and correctness
The Chelsea midfielder embraced his role as a playmaker rather well, although it clearly wasn't the greatest game of his career.
Mason Mount was good this Friday evening on the London lawn, a few kilometers from Stamford Bridge.
He made the English game more fluid and created breaches in the very compact opposing defense.
His attackers have not always improved his openings, however interesting.
Always technically fair and in his choices, some of his teammates should have been inspired by it, and England would perhaps not have had so much trouble against the Scottish neighbor.
He shone less in the second half, but remains one of the best English to have set foot on the pitch.
Flops
Harry Kane, physically tough
Bis-repetita.
As against Croatia, the captain of the Three Lions delivered a very average performance against the Scots.
If the position of number 9 does not necessarily require touching dozens and dozens of balls per game, Harry Kane is used to participating in the game. He has only touched very few balls and really did not. improved the little he was able to handle.
He was technically imprecise and appeared to fish physically, like in the first game.
Is he struggling to digest this season with Tottenham or is he dragging a physical glitch?
His performances are not reassuring as England will absolutely need their striker if they are to have a chance to lift the trophy on July 11 at Wembley.
The English attacks, too predictable
Harry Kane seemed the weakest physically, but the whole English team quickly seemed blunt. Or else without ideas. If Mount did try things, the local attacks were stereotypical and above all very static. They sometimes had good phases of possession in front of the Scottish surface but ultimately had very few chances (only one shot on target). A disappointing and above all worrying offensive copy for one of the contenders for the final victory. The ridiculous intensity of the English counter-pressing during loss of balls is indicative of a rather poor physical condition.
