Urios (UBB): "We don't feel worse than Toulouse"

2021-06-22T05:18:12.685Z

The coach of Bordeaux-Bègles, who has already lost three times against the Stadium this season, hopes that this reunion in the semi-final of the Top 14, this Saturday evening, will finally turn in favor of his team.

Special envoy to Lille

,

What are the keys for the UBB to finally beat Stade Toulousain on Saturday night in the semi-finals of the Top 14?

Christophe Urios:

The three defeats inspire us on what to do and what not to do.

We have clearer ideas today than on the evening of the third defeat (

two weeks ago, Editor's note

) and we will see much clearer tomorrow at noon. The summary is pretty straightforward. Often, against a big team, you have the impression of being very close but you are not; you have the impression that you can win but you lose… We were able to put Toulouse in difficulty and the Toulouse Stadium was, of course, able to put us in difficulty. What stands out the most is our lack of efficiency close to brand areas. It is linked, of course, to the strong defense of Toulouse, but also to our excess of haste and our lack of precision. This is one of the essential points: the importance of being efficient.

Does your team approach this match with complexes or with a strong sense of revenge?

We do not feel overconfident or less good. I repeat, these three defeats inspire us. We know how and why the Toulouse residents put us in difficulty. So we also know that if we approach this match in the same way as the first three, there is no reason to win. You have to approach it a little differently for that. It remains to be seen whether we will manage to set it up for part of the match or the whole match. But we did everything to deliver a great game. If we are not in this dynamic - big conquest, big defense, discipline, and good kicking - we will not win, that's for sure.

Can victory come through less possession on the part of your team?

This is one of the important lessons from our matches against Toulouse.

But I'm not going to tell you how we're going to play eh (

) ...

"I felt a real rapprochement between the staff and the players, something that I had not yet felt for two years that I have been at UBB"

Christophe Urios

Are your leaders finally responding as you hoped?

I find that this season, whether in the difficult moments, the Champions Cup finals or since this semi-final defeat against Toulouse, the leaders, and the whole group in general, have reacted very positively. I felt a real rapprochement between the staff and the players, something that I had not yet felt in the two years that I have been at UBB. There it is, I feel that the guys are ready. They squeezed. And experienced players bring a lot, they are real guides.

Have you prepared an anti-Antoine Dupont plan?

Stade Toulousain is based on a formidable state of mind, without which we cannot win, on certainties about the game, and on extraordinarily strong personalities, including "Toto". But to focus on him would be to forget the rest and the other players. There are so many that we would have to build an anti-Dupont plan, an anti-Kolbe plan, an anti-I don't know who plan. Rather, we must be collectively vigilant.

How important is this semi-final in the young history of UBB?

Not a simple question… This is an additional step for a club which has been building up for ten years, which is constantly advancing, which is structured, professionalized, and growing. It goes, of course, through results, playing two semi-finals of the European Cup was a first step, qualifying for the final phase of the Top 14 a second ... But we really grow by winning titles. We do not forbid anything. We have an opportunity tomorrow (

Saturday evening

) to show that we are there. It is an important step in the building of the club.

You often say that the semi-final is the toughest game. For what reasons ?

Be careful, this is a really personal opinion. For me, yes, we go up a notch in terms of opposition to the quarter-final; We have already delivered a very high level match and it is not easy to follow up… In fact, you are in the middle of the ford in the semi-final. A little far and at the same time not too far from a coronation. Afterwards, in the final, you have 80 minutes to give everything you have left because there is nothing left behind.
