Switzerland preserved its chances of reaching the round of 16 at the European Football Championship.
After only one point from the first two group games, the Nati prevailed 3-1 (2-0) against Turkey.
Haris Seferović (6th minute) and Xherdan Shaqiri (26th, 68th) scored for Switzerland, İrfan Kahveci had meanwhile scored the next goal (62nd).
Due to the worse goal difference against Wales, Switzerland remains in group A despite the success third - and now has to hope that at least two thirds of the table from the other five groups are worse. With four points, Switzerland has a negative goal difference of one goal. Now Switzerland has to hope, because in all other groups the third-placed can also achieve at least four points. Accordingly, the goal difference will decide. The group stage ends on Wednesday.
In both Switzerland and Turkey, the national teams were sometimes harshly criticized after the first two group matches at home.
Turkey was even considered a secret favorite before the start of the tournament, but had no chance against either Italy or Wales.
Switzerland, on the other hand, started with great expectations of their golden generation, the 0: 3 against Italy was tantamount to disillusionment.
And both teams looked to make amends from the start: After just four minutes, Turkey had already signed three deals, Yann Sommer parried the most dangerous with Kaan Ayhan.
But then the setback followed when Breel Embolo won the ball against Merih Demiral and the ball got to Seferovic via Steven Zuber.
The striker hit from the edge of the penalty area through Demiral's legs into the far corner.
The game followed the same pattern: Turkey ran up, but repeatedly failed with shots in the strong summer, as in the 16th and 33rd minutes by Mert Müldür. And on the other hand, the Turkish back four repeatedly failed to clear the ball for good. In addition, the Swiss Zuber, who is under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt, knew how to put his teammates in the limelight. After his pass, Shaqiri straightened the ball and shot with the weaker right foot in the right angle (26th).
In the second half, Switzerland pressed on the next goal.
Due to the 1-0 score for Italy in the parallel game, two more goals were needed for direct progress.
After missed opportunities by Embolo (52nd) and Seferovic (60th), Kahveci suddenly scored the next goal (62nd).
Suddenly even the victory threatened to be in danger because the Turkish goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır also outgrew himself.
But Switzerland could rely on Zuber.
After a counterattack he played the ball from the left wing between the goalkeeper and defense in the middle, again Shaqiri overcame Çakır from the penalty area with a direct decrease (68.)
