The Tunisian Ons Jabeur was the first Arab tennis player to win a title on the WTA tour.
The world rankings-24.
defeated the Russian Daria Kassatkina 7: 5, 6: 4 in the final in Birmingham.
The 26-year-old managed to take revenge against Kassatkina, to whom she lost in Moscow in October 2018 in the first final of her career.
"I am so proud.
I fought a lot and it was difficult for me to win a WTA title, ”said Jabeur on Center Court, who is considered a great role model in the Arab world of sports and has always stood up for the youngsters from her homeland.
“I had to win this title to take a deep breath and also to be a role model.
There aren't many Arab or Tunisian players out there and I hope my success inspires them to go ahead and do more.
I want to see more of them play next to me, ”Jabeur said.
Jabeur's victory means that she has now won 28 matches on the tour this year - more than any other player except for world number one Ash Barty, who also has 28 hits.
Her greatest success at a Grand Slam tournament so far is the quarter-finals at the Australian Open in 2020.
