Scotland's shooting star Billy Gilmour had his big hour in the preliminary round match against England on Friday: The 20-year-old stood out in the goalless draw against the favorites and neighbors, on his starting eleven he played numerous clever passes and demanded the ball even in the most difficult situations then heavily processed.
He was replaced after 76 minutes.
But now Gilmour threatens the abrupt end of this European championship: Because of a positive corona test, he will be out of the final group game against Croatia on Tuesday (9 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de; TV: ARD).
The professional from the English Premier League club FC Chelsea has to go into domestic quarantine for ten days, he would not even be there in a possible round of 16 for the Scots.
To do this, however, his team would have to win against Croatia first.
Against England, Gilmour was named the "star of the match", a trophy that the tournament organizer, Uefa, awards after every European Championship match.
He recently played a minor role at Chelsea, completing 95 minutes in the Champions League, which the club won last season.
But many believe Gilmour will have a strong career: “He has a great future ahead of him.
He can win as many international matches as he wants, ”said England captain Andy Robertson from Liverpool FC, praising the young teammate.
