Euro 2021: 60,000 spectators for the final

2021-06-26T20:44:18.595Z

The English authorities and UEFA are, according to The Telegraph, on the verge of agreeing to increase the tonnage of Wemb stadium

The information is still to be taken in the conditional.

But it could quickly become official.

While rumors have multiplied in recent days to evoke a relocation of the semi-finals and the final of the Euro from Wembley stadium to that of Budapest - Hungary is the only country not to impose a restricted gauge in its stadiums for the competition and does not require any conditions for the entry into its territory of travelers from the Schengen area -, "The Telegraph" announced on Monday that the London enclosure could well host these last matches scheduled for the 6th, July 7 and 11.

The English media claim that the British government and UEFA are in the process of concluding an agreement so that Wembley can increase its tonnage and welcome at least 60,000 spectators in the final.

That is two thirds of the stadium's capacity, which can accommodate 90,000 people.

Last week, the capacity for the semi-finals and the final was increased to 40,000 spectators, but it could therefore be changed again.

The UK government and Uefa are close to a deal that will see 60,000 fans in attendance at Wembley for the final of Euro 2020. Dignitaries will also be exempt from quarantine. @ MarcusParekhTel and @ben_rumsby have all the details in our live blog https: / /t.co/T95e6LX7qk # Euro2020

In addition, this agreement should provide for an exemption from quarantine for some 2,500 people accredited for the event (members of UEFA or Fifa, sponsors, broadcasters, foreign journalists).

A few days ago, the British government, faced with a rebound in contaminations including the Delta variant, announced to postpone by four weeks, until July 19, the lifting of the last restrictions to fight against the epidemic.

"We will do whatever we must to protect the country from Covid-19," Boris Johnson, the head of the British government, said.

This is obviously our priority.

We will talk to UEFA to find out what they want and see if we can come up with any notable accommodations, but public health remains the priority.
