Two games, four points.
After the first two days of the competition, a victory against Germany (1-0) and a draw against Hungary (1-1), and after the victory of Joachim Löw's men against Portugal (4-2) , the France team retains the head of group F. It could be qualified for the knockout stages as of Monday evening.
We explain how.
While the first two in each group and the four best thirds will qualify for the knockout matches, France (4 points) is already guaranteed to finish at least this famous third place, since Germany ( 3 points) and Hungary (1 point) meet on Wednesday.

The results of the matches played on Monday - Ukraine-Austria and Macedonia-Netherlands at 6 p.m. in Group C and Russia-Denmark and Finland-Belgium at 9 p.m. in Group B - could thus decide the fate of the Blues.
This will require a competition of favorable results: no draw between Ukraine and Austria and a defeat of Finland against Belgium or Russia against Denmark.
Win against Portugal to finish at the top of the group
In this case, the loser of the meeting between Ukraine (2nd in group B, 3 points) and Austria (3rd in group B, 3 points), would retain his capital of points, even though it is less than that of the Blues.
The same goes for Finland (3rd in Group C, 3 points) and Russia (2nd in Group C, 3 points) in the event of a defeat against their respective opponents.
Thus, two groups would have a team third in the standings with three points.
The Blues would in fact be guaranteed to be part of the four best thirds in this group stage, despite the general goal difference, also taken into account in the event of a tie.
Whatever the scenario of this Monday evening, the men of Didier Deschamps have every interest in being at the head of group F. For that, it will be necessary to be decisive against Portugal in Budapest this Wednesday at 9 pm. A victory would ensure them the top of the standings. A draw would allow them to finish among the top two teams.
