A rollercoaster of emotions: Internet picture collages by Switzerland fan Luca Loutenbach

At first his team looked like the loser, then they kicked the world champion out - and in the meantime he unintentionally became an internet hit.

"I don't know what is happening to me," said Luca Loutenbach of the Swiss newspaper "Blick" over the hours that followed: "I believe that everyone who knows me has written to me."

You've all probably seen these two photos of him.

The first shows him in the 89th minute of the European Championship round of 16, at that point his team was only 2: 3 behind against France, he seems nervous at the end.

Then Mario Gavranović scored 3: 3 - and the next photo shows him completely out of control.

Already during the game, the comparison of the two images spread rapidly on social media, Loutenbach became the "man of the game", as England's Mayor Sadiq Khan called him, as he personified the roller coaster ride of the round of 16 for the fans like no other in this one Eve.

But he didn't care much for his sudden fame, he said, after all he knew that it was only short-lived.

During the European Championship, he tried to be there at every game of his national team, said the 28-year-old.

The game in Bucharest was only his third game after the two games in Baku against Wales and Turkey.

»I try everything possible so as not to miss a game.

But it was logistically almost impossible to travel from Baku to Rome and back again, ”he said.

He cannot yet say whether he will be there for the quarter-finals against Spain in St. Petersburg.

“Of course I would like to continue to the stadium, but we have to look into the Covid measures.

The Delta variant complicates matters, ”said Loutenbach.

The TV cameras will be sure to keep an eye out for him on Friday night.
