Are championship races always tactical? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! Over the 3000 meter obstacle, the U23-DM got down to business right from the start. And Nick Jäger played a major role in this.

Penzberg / Koblenz - championship races are always tactical? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! In the competition over the 3000 meter obstacle, the U23-DM in Koblenz got down to business right from the start. Four athletes really pushed their pace and after 300 meters had already separated from the rest of the field. Nick Jäger was right in the middle of the quartet. The athlete from TSV Penzberg won the silver medal with a time of 8: 52.31 minutes. Gold went to Velten Schneider (8: 50.55) from VfL Sindelfingen, bronze went to Julius Hild (9: 03.27) from SSC Hanau-Rodenbach.

Only half a lap after the start, a group of four had separated from the other athletes. In addition to Hild (he was in first position for a long time), Jäger and Schneider also found Florian Bremm (TV Leutershausen). Jäger and Bremm are training buddies in Erlangen. At the beginning of the third to last lap, hunters and tailors passed Hild. Both set themselves apart from their opponents - it was now clear that the DM title would be decided between them. At this point Bremm was already a little behind Hild.

On the last lap Schneider passed Jäger on the back straight. The man from Baden-Württemberg got over the last moat without any problems; and also in the final sprint he kept his Bavarian rival at a distance. Schneider and Jäger are both qualified for the U23 European Championship, which will take place in Tallinn (Estonia) from July 8th to 11th. Both had undercut the EM norm (8: 48.00) a few weeks ago in Belgium (we reported).
