England is flying home - to the semi-finals of the European Football Championship.

In the quarter-finals in Rome, coach Gareth Southgate's team won 4-0 (1-0) against Ukraine.

Harry Kane took the lead after just four minutes.

Harry Maguire (46th minute) and Kane with his second goal (50th) made the preliminary decision shortly after the break.

Jordan Henderson headed the 4-0 (63rd).

The semi-final against Denmark on July 7th (9 p.m., SPIEGEL live ticker) will take place in London's Wembley Stadium, where the English national soccer team had already thrown the German team out of the tournament in the round of 16.

The winner will meet Spain or Italy in the European Championship final - which will also take place at Wembley.

The game was just four minutes old when England was already celebrating the lead.

Raheem Sterling passed the ball to the six-yard box and Harry Kane scored the 1-0 (4th) when he fell with his pike.

The Ukrainians' initial defensive tactics were thus overturned.

The English team left the ball to the underdog more often after the goal, but coach Andriy Shevchenko's team lacked ideas and pace.

Roman Yaremchuk had the best chance for the Ukrainians when he intercepted a bad pass in the English build-up game and missed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a shot from a tight angle (17th).

There wasn't much more to be seen offensive from Ukraine.

The English, for whom Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho was in the starting line-up for the first time, did not do more than necessary.

Declan Rice with a shot from 20 yards (34th) and Sterling in the penalty area (40th) had a good chance for the second goal, but goalkeeper Georgiy Bushchan parried both.

Two goals in four minutes

After the break, the English team struck again early.

Luke Shaw brought a high ball into the box and Maguire headed to make it 2-0 (46th).

Four minutes later, the preliminary decision was made: Shaw crossed from the left into the center and Kane headed the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Bushchan into the goal (50th).

After that, there was hardly anything to be seen offensive from the Ukrainian team.

Instead, England added the fourth goal: Mason Mount hit a corner kick into the penalty area and Jordan Henderson also headed to make it 4-0 (63rd).

This sealed the exit from Ukraine, in the final phase the outsider never came to a conclusion.
