Organizers of the International Wimbledon Tennis Championships decided today to increase the number of fans, starting from the singles quarter-finals, with the easing of restrictions related to the Corona virus.
The All England Club, the organizer of the tournament, said in a statement on its official website that it decided to increase the number of fans in the most famous tennis tournament, starting from the singles quarter-finals onwards, after it had restricted attendance by 50 percent since its start last Monday.
The club indicated that the decision comes when the finals next weekend will witness an increase to 100 percent in the central stadium, which can accommodate 15,000 people.
The authorities in Britain are treating Wimbledon as a trial event for the safe return of crowds as part of the government's events research programme, while this will be the first time that outdoor stadiums are operating at full capacity for a sporting event since the Corona pandemic led to the suspension of sports tournaments in the country in March 2020.
This edition of Wimbledon witnessed the withdrawal of major stars such as Spaniard Rafael Nadal, Austrian Dominic Thiem, Japan's Naomi Osaka and Romanian Simona Halep.
