Bad news for the Tölzer Löwen: contract with the top scorer before dissolution?
Bad Tölz - It was an absolute stroke of luck for the Tölzer Lions.
A win for the second division ice hockey team in terms of both human and sporting quality.
A goal guarantee, successful in almost every game in the pre-season.
A driver that keeps the opponent busy with his pace.
It was not for nothing that the league voted for the best striker of the DEL 2.
And the best: he extended his contract early.
But now it looks like the Tölzer need a replacement for Max French.
Long-term consequences of the injury from the play-offs?
"He has an ongoing contract," says Jürgen Rumrich.
"But we are currently talking about whether we should dissolve it," says the managing director of the Tölzer Eissport-Gesellschaft.
It could be that the Canadian will not return from his homeland.
There is speculation about the consequences of the injury that cost the 28-year-olds the pre-season play-offs.
Rumrich remains silent about the reasons.
"But it would be bad for us if he doesn't come back."
An equivalent replacement is almost impossible.
Nevertheless, the Tölzer are looking for a foreign striker anyway.
"We still want a contingent player for the offensive anyway," says Rumrich.
"Now we may need two."
Wanted: Two foreigners for the storm instead of one
The Löwen boss is not expecting a return of Shawn Weller, who surprisingly did not come back after the 2019/20 season, even if the American was not averse to ending his break after a year.
The lions have a couple of other names on the list.
One or the other player could be considered for a commitment, says Rumrich.
"But there is still no offer."
Lions are waiting for licensing
Meanwhile, the lions - like the other DEL 2 clubs - are waiting for the license for the coming season.
Rumrich does not expect a notification until the middle to the end of July.
"Everything goes its way." The Löwen boss has not yet received an interim report.
Now that his top scorer may drop out of the squad, Rumrich certainly doesn't need any more bad news.
