Ice hockey national league team Black Bears Freising is starting its preparation with a rejuvenated squad.
Some veterans are no longer there.
Freising
- "3 - 6 - 14", that is the current strength of the national ice hockey league team from Freising.
That means: The new trainer Nils Hanfstingl can start the summer preparation this Friday with almost a complete team.
The Black Bears currently have three goalkeepers, six defenders and 14 forwards at their disposal.
As every year, there were a few departures during the season break - but these have already been largely offset by new staff.
From the coming season Moritz Lieb will lace up his ice skates for Freising: The 28-year-old winger is moving from EHC Pinguine Königsbrunn to the Bears.
At the EHC he had been active in the Bavarian League for a number of years since 2016, just as he had been with the Wanderers Germering since 2012/13.
Newcomer Michael Lackner has already gained experience in the Bavarian League at EV Moosburg and the Pfaffenhofen IceHogs.
After a two and a half year break, the 35-year-old Austrian is itching to get back on the ice.
The striker was last registered with EV Aich in 2017/18.
Two players come from the DNL
Marco Rott moved from Ingolstadt to the cathedral city. The 20-year-old was most recently active in the DNL as a striker for the ERC and achieved 25 points scorer in the 2019/20 season. Theodor Ziegelhöffer also comes from the DNL - from RT Bad Nauheim. The 18-year-old will start training in Munich in September and was therefore looking for a new club.
Coach Nils Hanfstingl is bringing two more talents from the EHC Munich's up-and-coming forge with him to Freising: Vincenz Stegner has played in various Munich youth teams since he was under 12 before he played for SC Riessersee in the DNL in 2018/19.
The 22-year-old defender receives a three-month trial contract in Freising, as does his former teammate from the Munich U18 team, Philipp Aigner: The striker (20) last hunted goals for the EHC in the U20 Bayern League in 2019/20.
There Aigner had 16 hits and 17 assists in 26 games.
Sports director Gregor Tomasik looking for reinforcements
In the six departures this summer, some of Freising's veterans are there: Pavel Hanke (37) played for the Black Bears since 2009 and Kevin Rentsch (31) since 2011. Luis Bauer (22), who only joined the seniors in 2020, had but spent his entire youth in the club. Sebastian Kröger (35) and Manuel Kühnl (35) will probably no longer be available for professional reasons - and Michael Pfab (28) is returning to the Bayern League in Pfaffenhofen.
Looking at this list, it becomes clear that the average age of the Bears will move down again in the coming season.
That is why sports director Gregor Tomasik is still looking for reinforcements, especially for the defense.
The requirement profile is clear: They should be experienced players who have, if possible, already played in higher classes.
Two defenders are on the wish list.
The team and coach Hanfstingl will meet in person for the first time on Friday.
Then the training plans are distributed and the summer training officially starts.
It has not yet been determined when the Ice Age will begin in Freising.
But those in charge of the Black Bears Freising hope that it can work this year with an earlier ice preparation in September.
