Because of the end of the season, nobody was able to celebrate their title on the lawn.

All the more we want to honor their achievements in the local newspaper.

An author who has been particularly close to his heart club for 15 years writes about FC Schwaig, champions of the district league.

Schwaig - 48 points, 54:30 goals in 22 games.

Champion of the district league north, promotion to the regional league.

And that as a climber.

I feel like many Schwaigers at the moment: I have to pinch myself.

No, this is not a dream.

It is reality, more precisely the result of the two-year 2019/2021 season.

A season that was outstanding in terms of sport for my FC, but also left deep wounds not only on me due to tragic deaths at the club.

In addition, there was the corona pandemic, which led to the end of the season and promotion to the green table, but prevented the celebration of this greatest success in the club's 108-year history.

I've been with my club as press spokesman for 15 years now, but I've never experienced a season like this.

But let's look back together.

The team is on a run

On July 21, 2019, just a month after winning the promotion match against ASV Habach, my FCS competed in the first district league match in its history.

At Türk SV Ingolstadt, the Held-Elf was not shocked by an early deficit and deservedly won 4-1.

Next matchday, first home game: The opponent was SV Dornach, who was supervised by cult coach Toni Plattner.

Maxi Hellinger decided this match in the last minute with his 2-1.

Did it get any better?

Yes, because the English starting week ended with the derby against FC Finsing.

In front of over 300 spectators, the first half was balanced, but after Ben Held's opening goal, FC Schwaig played the hosts against the wall in the second half and won 4-0.

It was followed by a 5: 2 in Sulzemoos.

Until then, it was all sunshine, but that changed completely a few days later: Franz Hellinger junior died on August 2nd after a tragic car accident, and the whole place was in shock.

Football became a minor matter, the home game against Pfaffenhofen was postponed.

Twelve days later, the team returned to the field - and that was the absolute highlight of the season: FC Moosinning was waiting as an opponent.

The ex-regional league team competed in the derby in Schwaig to show the ex-regional league team who is number one in the district.

In front of over 750 spectators, the guest deservedly took the lead. Shortly before the half-time whistle, however, Maxi Hellinger equalized for Schwaig. What happened next is the highlight of the season for me and the most moving moment that I was able to experience on the football field. Immediately after the equalizer, Moosinnings Dennis Stauf took the goal scorer in his arms, congratulated him and showed his friend incredible respect and sympathy two weeks after the death of his father Franz Hellinger. After the break, Ben Held scored the 2: 1 after wonderful preparatory work by Hannes Empl. It stayed that way, and FC Schwaig topped the table for the first time.

The derby victory was followed by a 1-0 win in Schwabing.

Six wins after six games - what a start in the new league.

But slowly the lack of a summer break made itself felt and the injuries increased.

The coaching team Ben Held and Florian Fink could hardly vary, as the team positioned itself.

The forces are weakening

In the "darn seventh match" it happened: Schwaig lost 1: 3 against the regional reserve of VfB Eichstätt. The team was tired, looked drained - and came back a week later when they were down 2-1 with promoted SpVgg Feldmoching. The Schwaiger also remained successful in the catch-up game in Pfaffenhofen. And now the top game at TSV Eching was waiting. The second received the championship leader, but from Schwaiger's point of view it came at the wrong time. With Ben Held, Florian Fink, Raffi Ascher, Daniel Fichtlscherer and Mikey Straßer five players were missing. And so it was not surprising that Eching deservedly took a 2-0 lead. Maxi Hellinger's goal made the game exciting again, but in the end there was a 1: 2 defeat. Close matches followed: Tobi Jell's winning goal in the 90th minute made it 2-1 against Kammerberg, a 0:1 in Manching after a poor performance, a 2-2 at the feared opponent SVA Palzing. The 3: 3 against FC Alte Haide was a spectacle for the audience. A 3-0 mandatory win against bottom side Türk SV Ingolstadt, a 0-0 win in Dornach and a 2-0 derby against FC Finsing - after that it was finally winter break. And that lasted nine months.

Two more strokes of fate

In January 2020 our long-time club host Frank Berhold died completely unexpectedly, and not even four months later Franz Hellinger senior.

If we could at least pay our last respects to our club host at his funeral, it was not possible for our honorary chairman because of the pandemic.

That is why the citizens set up candles on the Schwaiger grandstand, signed a condolence book and paid their last respects to the long-standing Spiritus Rector of the FC.

Re-start with renewed vigor

The season continued on September 23, 2020.

Our team came out of the break with verve and showed rousing attack football.

The Held-Elf defeated strong Pfaffenhofen 5: 4, outclassed Schwabing 5: 1 and also won the third home game of this English week against Sulzemoos 3: 1.

The last league game of the year followed, which should also be the last game of the season.

It was a memorable game.

In Eichstätt they fell behind twice, but equalized each time.

In the last minute, Maxi Buchauer scored the 3-2 winner.

A victory that was to be decisive in the final bill.

Further highlights: District Cup and Fifa

Another highlight was winning the district cup with an 8: 1 against GW Ingolstadt.

That was the ticket for the Toto Cup, where Bayern league club FC Ismaning proved to be too strong (2: 5).

Hannes Empl, Daniel Fichtlscherer and Vincent Sommer proved that our boys not only shine on the grass, but also when they play FIFA, with their victory in the MA Gold Cup, the district championship on the console that the local newspaper proclaimed.

Our team was particularly pleased about the second place in the election for Team of the Year of the Erdinger / Dorfener Anzeiger.

Only the Erding Gladiators ice hockey team received more votes.

The maker in the background

Our former head of the football department, Anton Scheckenhofer, has probably had the largest share in the Schwaig upswing. Toni is a meticulous worker who, after the relegation of the first team to the A-class, of all things, for the 100th anniversary of the club, had a precise plan of how FC Schwaig should get out of this valley. Together with coach Pero Knezevic, he built a team around numerous Schwaiger homegrown people who had played in higher-class youth teams. Within a few years, the young team's path led to the district league. In addition, with their achievements, the boys put a smile on the face of many people in Schwaig after the bad strokes of fate.

Football Sundays were a way back to normal that we all needed so badly.

The rest is known.

Now FC Schwaig is playing in the regional league and wants to try to represent the Erding district as best it can.

Actually unbelievable and certainly just a snapshot.

But a very nice one.

At least for those who, like me, stick with FC Schwaig.

Rainer Hellinger

The competition congratulates

“Congratulations on the championship! When you get up, you have to have done a few things right. For us it was of course a bitter endeavor because the championship was decided by the quotient, but FC Schwaig was better there. Of course we would have loved to play the second leg. But again: FC Schwaig has shown a lot of quality in the team and a very high level of consistency during the season. He never broke in, compensated injuries and even scored three points when he wasn't the better team. It was clear to me that FC Schwaig couldn't be seen as a normal promoted team, but I wouldn't have thought that they would shoot through in the first one either. ”

Gerhard Lösch, coach of TSV Eching

“We look towards Schwaig with great respect and appreciation. A great environment, meticulous work in the club is rewarded with an extraordinary rise. Benni Held's team succeeded perfectly in taking the positive momentum from the promotion from the district league into the season and pulling it through to the end. It wasn't the team with the best individual players who got promoted, but the team with the right mix. Big compliment, and I will definitely watch one or the other game on site. ”

Dieter Heilmair, Chairman of FC Finsing

“Schwaig was one of the best teams in the league throughout the season and thus deserves a promotion.

With the broad and strong squad they will be able to assert themselves in the national league. ”

Robert Hartmann, board member of FC Finsing

“We congratulate you on your promotion to the regional league and wish you every success there.

At the end of the day, Schwaiger had the best quotient, and that's why they deservedly rose to the top.

I am sure that with their quality they can also play a good role in the regional league. ”

Karl Thumbs, Chairman of FC Moosinning

“Congratulations on the climb. In the end it was a very close thing, but the development of FC Schwaig doesn't even seem to be stopped by Corona at the moment. "

Markus Wetzel, Sports Director of TSV Dorfen
