Euro 2021: in Manchester, the fresco of Marcus Rashford vandalized then covered with positive messages

The day after the defeat against Italy (1-1, 3-2 tabs) in the Euro final, all of England woke up with a hangover on Monday.

But it also awakened some primary instincts in some pseudo-supporters who poured their hatred and their stupidity on social networks and outside.

Players of color, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho, who missed their shots on goal, have been the target of racist insults on social networks.

Acts which prompted the British police to open an investigation.

For Marcus Rashford, it went even further.

In addition to racist slurs, the Manchester United striker saw a mural of his effigy vandalized by tags in his own city.

A very symbolic act.

Because it had been painted after he pledged to feed, through free school meals, the most disadvantaged children at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

In response, supporters draw hearts and write words of encouragement

Despite his commitment and the popularity enjoyed by Marcus Rashford in Manchester, stupidity has not spared him.

The fresco had to be covered by tarpaulins and the Manchester police, who also opened an investigation.

But this act of vandalism deeply shocked the city and made people react.

A supporter thus wanted to respond in the best possible way by sticking hearts on the vandalized part of the work and by writing words like “hero” or “model”.

It was spontaneously followed by other people who also stuck words of encouragement on the fresco.
