The Swiss will not be celebrating his 40th birthday in Japan. On his Twitter account, he announced his package for the Olympic Games which begin on 23 July

Roger Federer will certainly never be Olympic singles champion.

This Tuesday, he announced on his Twitter account his package for the Tokyo Olympics, which will take place from July 23 to August 8.

“During the grass season, I unfortunately had a setback with my knee, and had to make up my mind to retire from the Tokyo Olympics.

I am very disappointed because it has been an honor and a highlight of my career every time I have represented Switzerland.

I have already started my rehabilitation hoping to return to the circuit later this summer.

I wish the whole Swiss team good luck and I will support them from afar.

As always, Hopp Schwiz!

One gold in doubles, and one silver in singles in four appearances

Eliminated in the quarter-finals of the last Wimbledon, the Swiss had announced his desire to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.

But a relapse to the knee, which had kept him away from the courts since Roland Garros, will make a new participation in Japan impossible.

He will therefore not be celebrating his 40th birthday in Japan (he will have them on the day of the closing ceremony on August 8).

For him, the account should stop at four participations in the Olympic Games since 2000. Unless he is leaving for the Games in Paris in three years ... He will then be 43 years old.

In four appearances, the man with the 20 Grand Slams won two medals: one in gold in doubles with his compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in Beijing in 2008 and another in silver in singles, beaten by Briton Andy Murray in the final in London in 2012 Injured in 2016, he had already missed the Rio Games.
