2021-07-13T14:59:28.018Z

The e-commerce giant, which holds 80% of the rights to Ligue 1, will launch its channel to broadcast the league matches. It will cost

This is the figure expected by all football fans since Amazon's takeover of Ligue 1 on June 11. The American e-commerce giant announced on Tuesday that the French will have to pay € 12.99 per month to be able to watch the championship and in particular the Sunday evening poster brought forward at 8:45 p.m. “We are going to broadcast 8 Ligue 1 matches per week and for that we are going to create a channel called Prime Video Ligue 1,” explains Alex Green, general manager of sports for Amazon Europe. This will cost € 12.99 per month, cancellable at any time, for all Prime Video subscribers. "

To be able to benefit from this offer, you must therefore be a subscriber to Amazon Prime Video. For those who are not yet, this will incur an additional cost of 5.99 per month or 49 € per year. This brings the price of the subscription between 17 and 19 € monthly depending on the choice of monthly or annual payment of Prime Video.

It is less expensive than Mediapro (25 € monthly when it is launched) but it still represents a certain amount even if the managers of the platform want to believe in the success of their economic model and its practicality.

“Ligue 2 will be included in this pack, and we think it's a good offer for our customers,” says Alex Green.

The channel will be very easy to find on all streaming devices, be it your TV, computer, tablet, phones or game consoles.

And this via all access providers: Orange, SFR, Bouygues, Free.

Our offer is easy to access, with a single price and available on all devices.

Ligue 2 on the L'Equipe channel

If on August 1, the Champions Trophy between Lille and Paris Saint-Germain will be visible for free to all Prime Video users, subscription to the new channel will be necessary from the first day of the Ligue 1 championship.

For Ligue 2, on the other hand, supporters will be able to benefit for a few weeks from the partnership that Amazon has decided to forge with the L'Équipe group.

“For Ligue 2, we are going to announce a partnership with L'Équipe which will offer the first ten days for free on its channel,” reveals the British leader.

The objective is to give the supporters the possibility to see their team, and it is a good way through this partnership to follow his club.

A good way also to retain a clientele who will then have to switch to Prime Video to follow his favorite team.

On the content side, Prime Video Ligue 1 will initially be satisfied with the broadcasting of matches in the championship, and a few very targeted broadcasts. Not enough to revolutionize the universe of thematic sports channels. “We don't need to set up programs to feed the channel 24/7,” says Green. We mainly want to focus on what is important to customers like the pre and post game shows, but also the Sunday magazine. We will also be offering re-broadcasts of the matches in their entirety. Then we may add other content, we have three years to see that (Editor's note: Amazon is a broadcaster of 80% of the League until 2024) ”. If the names of the consultants have not yet filtered, journalists Thibault Le Rol, Marina Lorenzo, Julien Brun,Smaïl Bouabdellah, four former Telefoot channel, will host the antenna.

Already broadcaster of the Roland-Garros nights during the last edition of the tennis tournament, Amazon did not want to reveal quantified targets in terms of subscribers for its new channel. But the platform is counting on its high penetration rate in French homes to retain a clientele of football lovers. “The French know what Amazon is and are very familiar with Prime services,” comments Frédéric Duval, CEO of Amzon.fr. We are adding one that will spread very quickly among the French. In addition, the use and availability of this service will be very easy, so I have no doubts that the French will find their way. "
