During the half-time break of the England versus Ukraine game, he posted a tweet that contained promotional content that had not been agreed with the broadcaster.

He also presented his watch very obviously - including by holding the microphone in his left hand, even though he is right-handed.

Schweinsteiger has now apologized for this action - which was possibly a prerequisite for further cooperation with ARD.

“In the past few days, extensive discussions have taken place between ARD and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

In this context, Bastian Schweinsteiger stated that he was sorry [...] that the impression arose that he was mixing his work as an ARD expert with advertising for sponsors.

This was not what he intended, ”reads a passage in the press release.

Schweinsteiger will "do everything to ensure that such an incident does not happen again." Schweinsteiger deleted the advertising tweet the day after the incident. The collaboration is now expected to continue until the end of 2022. Will “Schweini” cut a better figure at the Qatar World Cup? We'll know in a year and a half.
