The U21 European champion, who already played on loan for VfL in the first half of the 2019/2020 season, comes from the English champions Manchester City.
The 22-year-old attacker signed a contract with the Champions League club until June 30, 2025.
»We have always been convinced of Lukas' qualities and have continued to follow his path closely even after he left Wolfsburg.
In Anderlecht he took the next step in his career and made enormous progress.
Last but not least, in the German U21 team he showed how important he can be for a team on and off the pitch and that despite his only 22 years of experience in leadership roles and progressing, «said VfL Sports Director Marcel Schäfer.
Nmecha has been under contract with Manchester since 2017, but has been loaned to Wolfsburg, the English second division club FC Middlesbrough and the Belgian first division club RSC Anderlecht.
At the finals of the U21 European Championship, the striker was the top scorer with four goals in six games.
Bornauw king transfer for Wolfsburg defensive
In addition to Nmecha, Belgian defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is also moving to VfL.
He comes from league competitor 1. FC Köln.
Both clubs confirmed this on Friday.
The 22-year-old signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2026 and, according to consistent media reports, costs VfL a transfer fee in the double-digit million range, which can increase to up to 17 million euros through bonus payments.
"He is our absolute dream player for the defense," said Wolfsburg sports director Marcel Schäfer.
The Belgian moved from RSC Anderlecht to Cologne in 2019 for around six million euros.
The Wolfsburg wanted to sign Bornauw regardless of the question of whether their defender Maxence Lacroix changes to RB Leipzig or not.

The German national player Leonie Maier is moving from Arsenal FC to Everton FC in England.
The 28-year-old defender signed a contract until the summer of 2023. Maier had played for Arsenal since 2019.
Before that, the 2013 European champion, who won gold with Germany at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, was under contract with FC Bayern Munich for six years.
»I won titles at the highest level.
I'm here to win too, ”Maier said in her introduction video.
