Max Nagl is currently the measure of all things at the ADAC MX Masters.

The veteran from Weilheim celebrated the day's victory in Tensfeld.

But in the meantime it hung by a thread.

Tensfeld - Just in the anniversary race, Max Nagl's engine stuttered.

When the motocross professional from Weilheim was standing at the start gate before the third race at the ADAC MX Masters in Tensfeld (Schleswig-Holstein), his “Husqvarna” suddenly ran out.

Nagl managed to get the machine going, "but it only bubbled".

When the big hunt started, “I couldn't really accelerate”.

The favorite was expecting to have to give up - and that in the 250th race of the series.

After two laps, however, "the problem was simply gone," reported Nagl.

So he could start a race to catch up.

In view of the difficulties at the beginning, "I'm all the more happy that it was enough to take second place and overall victory," he said at the award ceremony.

Max Nagl is clearly ahead in the MX Masters series

Four times first, once second - that's Max Nagl's balance sheet after two events. In the overall ranking of the Masters class, he is 33 points ahead of Tixier. Last weekend in Tensfeld, the second race turned out to be a real show of power. Nagl took the "holeshot", that is, he was the first to leave the first corner, and then quickly expanded the lead. After a few moments, it was five seconds on Tixier. As a result, Nagl seems to jet effortlessly over the demanding stretch of sand. In the end, the driver from the “Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team” had a full 17 seconds lead. "Respect, Max. Respect," said the noticeably impressed host of the live stream. Since no spectators were allowed on the route, the ADAC had set up an online transmission.

The triumphant himself denied that he was not challenged in the racing series.

"It might look easy, but it isn't," he emphasized after winning the second race.

After a “difficult week” for him, in which he was unable to train, he only managed to finish eighth on the grid in qualifying.

In the first race, which took place on Saturday, Nagl was initially in third place.

About halfway through the race (25 minutes plus two laps) he took the lead.

In the end, Tixier came ominously close to him, before the Frenchman briefly fell to the ground two minutes before the end while overtaking a lapped driver and thus had no chance.

“I had to fight a lot,” said Nagl.

In the evening he had the shock absorbers changed - an action “that you don't usually do on the race weekend,” as Nagl explained. The risk paid off: the day after, Nagl got on very well with his bike in the second race, which was reflected in the clear start-finish victory. The third race finally showed that the competition is always lurking when the former vice world champion and third place in the 2016 World Cup struggles. The man from Weilheim came out of the first corner in third place and subsequently had to struggle with his motorcycle and the drivers in front of him. Holeshot winner Tixier was already too far ahead. The Frenchman - subsequently disqualified in the second race after ignoring a flag signal - then left no doubt about the race victory, even if he went down briefly in the last lap.

Youngster Valentin Kees also competed in Tensfeld.

In the junior races for the “MX Junior Cup 125”, the KTM rider from Schwabniederhofen scored once in the points.

In the third race, the 16-year-old from the “Kosak Racing Team” took 15th place.

After a good start he was at the front for a while and was fifth.

In the second half of the race, Kees had to let some drivers pass.

When the last two laps came up, he was still tenth, then lost five places.

It was definitely a remarkable performance in the international arena.

A week before that, Kees had won the day's ranking in the 125cc class in the races for the German championship in Schweighausen (Black Forest) with ranks two and one.

"Back in the race again", reported Kees with satisfaction.
