The head of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games, Toshiro Moto, did not rule out its late cancellation if there is a significant increase in corona cases in Japan.

Moto said he would keep an eye on the numbers and hold talks with the organizers if necessary.

As you may recall, the Olympic and Paralympic Games have already been postponed for a year due to the eruption of the corona.

International Olympic Committee Chairman Thomas Bach spoke today (Tuesday) in Tokyo and said: "The International Olympic Committee does not abandon or neglect the athletes. The cancellation was not easy for us. We could have received the insurance money and advanced to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. But cancellation was never an option for us "To get to the present day we had to give confidence. We had to show a way out of this crisis. We had to provide stability, build trust, give hope."

Bach went on to say: "I can admit we did not know how complex it would be. There was no precedent, no one has done it before. In the last 15 months, we have had to make decisions on an unclear basis. We had daily doubts. We had a lot. Discussions and explored many possibilities, there were many sleepless nights. Like everyone else in the world, we did not know, I did not know what the future held. "Our doubts could have become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Olympics could have crashed to pieces. So we kept the doubts to ourselves. We did it together, we did it for the athletes."

Meanwhile, the Japanese media reported on people with entry visas to games spending time in Tokyo and violating the isolation guidelines.

Moto himself said: "We can not predict what will happen if there is an increase in the number of corona cases, then we will hold discussions in such a case. Currently there can be an increase in the number of corona cases or a decrease, we do not know. We will hold discussions if necessary."
