Two athletes tested positive, but not for the same.

On the one hand, the Chilean specialist in Chilean taekwondo, Fernanda Aguirre, has tested positive for the coronavirus and has to turn back.

On the other, the Australian rider Jamie Kermond, was excluded from the Olympics against his will even before having taken the plane after having tested positive for cocaine during a control carried out last June.

Concerning the Chilean, a statement from the COCH (Chilean Olympic Committee) explains that the sportswoman "is asymptomatic and in good health, but unfortunately will not be able to compete, because the Japanese authorities impose a quarantine of ten days". Initially, she came from Uzbekistan where she had prepared with her technical supervision. She is the first athlete in Japan to have to give up her participation in the Games because of the Covid-19. She was transferred to a sanitary residence, as was her trainer, tested negative but had contact. She said she was "destroyed and very sad" on social networks.

Jamie Kermond, meanwhile, is now banned from participating in any event under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards.

Australian media reported that the rider did not fly to Tokyo on Tuesday with the rest of the riding team.

The Covid still threatens Tokyo

A few days ago, three positive cases were discovered in the Olympic Village.

The Tokyo Games were confronted for the first time with a source of contamination.

These were not the first cases since the IOC recorded last Sunday 55 positive tests among the 30,000 carried out on 18,000 athletes, supervisors, officials or journalists who arrived in Japan since July 1.

On July 20, the head of the organizing committee for the Tokyo Olympics, Toshiro Muto, announced that he would remain very attentive to the number of positive cases of Covid-19, three days before the opening ceremony.

Cases of contamination continue to increase in Tokyo and the Games, postponed last year due to the pandemic, will take place from July 23 to August 8, in almost empty places, behind closed doors.
