Schongau - This sport is still largely unknown in the region.

In Schongau and the surrounding area, however, it has already found many fans.

We are talking about Roundnet, which originated in America 30 years ago - at that time under the name "Spikeball" - but which has only recently gained popularity again.

In Schongau there is now even an official roundnet department at TSV. “The players wanted to be insured and use the club's infrastructure. It's easier for them as a department, ”said TSV chairman Ralf Konstantin, whose son Markus was elected head of the new division, which currently has around 20 members. “We have people from all kinds of sports,” reported handball player Pascal Mudrak, who is also one of the Roundnet enthusiasts. In addition to handball players, soccer players and ice hockey players are also friends of the game with the small plastic ball, which players from two teams of two hit on a small round net so that the opponent does not catch the rebounding ball if possible.

16 teams of two took part in the “founding tournament” of the new department in the stadium at the Lechsporthalle. They played against each other in four groups of four teams each in the "best of three" mode. Each set went up to 15 points. "It's a bit like beach volleyball," reported Mudrak due to the similarities in the disclosure law, which is always the team that scored last. And as with beach volleyball, a maximum of three ball contacts are allowed before the ball is hit again on the net.

"It looks a bit strange at first," said Muriz Salemovic with a smile. The former Schongau footballer, who is now a player-coach at the Bayern league club TSV Landsberg, got involved with his brother Erol. "We also played that in training and the boys were very enthusiastic," said Salemovic of the positive experiences with Roundnet in his soccer team.

It wasn't enough for the brothers to get a top placement at the first tournament in Schongau. But two other footballers ended up at the front. The "Team Impact" with Nicola Haser and Andreas Neureuther, who both play at TSV Peiting, secured first place ahead of "Old Butterhand" with Mudrack and Markus Konstantin. The winner's podium was completed by “Juventus Urin” with ice hockey player Florian Höfler and handball player Roman Hauser. “The tournament was very well received, the atmosphere was great. There were no injuries, everything went smoothly and very fairly, ”said organizer René Finsterwalder, drawing a positive conclusion.
