As the Olympic Games open in Tokyo this Friday, Paris and several cities in Île-de-France are getting on to Olympic time.

With one idea in mind: to prepare Ile-de-France residents for the arrival of the five-ring flag on August 8, which will mark the start of the Paris Olympiad.

For this, the French Olympic committee and the organizers of the 2024 Games have put the small dishes in the big ones, with a central site, in the gardens of the Trocadéro, in Paris (16th century).

The festivities will begin each day at noon (exceptionally at 10 a.m. on July 23, 27, 30 and August 5).

On the program, the retransmission of the events taking place in Tokyo on a giant screen, but also cultural and sporting events, or meetings with athletes.

As the French athletes participating in the Games have to leave Japan 48 hours after the end of their events, most of them will come to the Trocadero as soon as they return to Paris.

On Friday, it will be possible to learn 3x3 basketball, judo or BMX.

Events at the 2024 Olympic venues

This weekend, we can practice baseball on Saturday or taekwondo on Sunday.

Laser shooting, breakdance, modern pentathlon, karate, rowing, skateboarding and athletics will be offered throughout the fortnight.

“Thanks to the live games of the Games, thousands of enthusiasts or the curious will be able to celebrate the performances of the French in Tokyo and learn about different sports,” enthuses Tony Estanguet, president of the organizing committee for the Paris Games.

If the triple Olympic champion is present in Tokyo, he will be at the foot of the Eiffel Tower on Sunday, August 8, for the climax of these events.

While Japan will finish with its Games, the governor of Tokyo will pass the torch to the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

The capital will then officially enter its Olympiad.

While at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Paris 2024 will broadcast its vision of the Games live around the world, the Trocadéro will vibrate, including a free Woodkid concert at 3 p.m.

Until August 8, activities are also planned in Île-de-France, on future Olympic sites.

Sports workshops and a broadcast of the Olympics at Georges-Valbon Park, in Seine-Saint-Denis will be held from July 31 to August 8.

Introductions to table tennis, dance, athletics, archery, basketball, rugby, football and climbing on Place Jean-Jaurès in Saint-Denis will be offered on 23 July and August 8.

In addition, workshops and concerts will take place throughout the duration of the Games as well as workshops and concerts, at the Pointe de l'Écluse, in Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne).

The opening ceremony and the events will also be broadcast on a giant screen at the Maurice-Baquet stadium in Guyancourt, with various activities around Japan (until July 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.).
