The opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics has just ended and Paris 2024 is already imagining its own.
In an interview with the newspaper L'Équipe, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by Tony Estanguet, triple Olympic gold medalist in canoeing and president of the organizing committee for the next Games, said that it would be held of course on the Seine.
“It has been a few months now that there has been a desire to have a truly unique and revolutionary opening ceremony.
The first time Tony introduced me to the idea, a year ago, I thought it was crazy and I said banco.
So I can confirm that this ceremony will take place on the Seine, ”he said in this interview conducted at Club France in Tokyo.
Exit therefore the traditional ceremony in the Olympic Stadium and the long parade of different nations, as was still the case this Friday July 23 in Japan.
The Head of State specifies that many details remain to be settled, including "the security, the story, the route".
"An unforgettable event"
Barges should be installed on the river and the banks of the Seine should also be called upon.
"Our desire is that we can truly offer an unforgettable event," added Emmanuel Macron.
This will give a visual force, an emotion and even a very different rhythm to the ceremony.
There is an incredible potential for creativity by mixing places and shows at the same time ”.
Tony Estanguet assures us that the Paris 2024 organizing committee is currently working on the “conditions of realization” of this ceremony, both with the IOC and with the city of Paris.
“There is still a lot of work but it is a magnificent project (…).
The ceremonies will reflect what we have been doing from the start: rethinking each marker of the Games to open them up to as many people as possible, ”he said.
Emmanuel Macron thus hopes to create a “popular ceremony”, “open to all” and with “meaning for the French”. Appointment is made for July 26, 2024!
