Chelsea's attempts to sign former Belgian international Romelu Lukaku, striker for Inter Milan, failed.
"From our side, we can confirm that Lukaku is not for sale and is an important part of the chessboard available to coach Simone Inzaghi," Giuseppe Marotta, CEO of the Nerazzurri, told the Italian network "Mediaset".
With German coach Thomas Tuchel keen to enhance his attacking options with a top scorer after receiving this shock from Milan, he may now have to look elsewhere for a new player.
The 28-year-old Belgium international played at Stamford Bridge during the 2011-2012 season and at the beginning of the 2013-2014 season before completing his loan move to Everton and is expected to return to Milan early next week.
