At her start in Tokyo, Monika Karsch clearly missed a medal: In the competition with the air pistol, the qualification was over - but that was not entirely surprising.
Tokyo - Monika Karsch clearly missed a medal in her first competition in Tokyo. The marksman from Rott failed in the "Air pistol 10 meters" discipline in the qualification on Sunday. With 568 rings (98, 95, 96, 91, 95, 93) Karsch landed in 29th place out of 53 athletes. The second German, Carina Wimmer (571/20th place), also missed the final of the top eight. In the end, gold went to the Russian Vitalina Batsarashkina. She had finished the qualification in third place, in the final she won with an Olympic record of 240.3 rings.
That Karsch was unable to intervene in the battle for the medals with the air pistol is not too surprising.
In this discipline she was not one of the favorites.
It looks different in the competition with the sport pistol.
The girl from Rotterdam, who lives in Regensburg, wants to win a medal there.
The competitions will take place next Thursday and Friday.
Karsch won the silver medal with the sport pistol in Rio in 2016.
Monika Karsch starts furiously with six tens
Karsch started the air pistol competition "as if unleashed", it says on the homepage of the German Shooting Federation. Six tens - that was the result. It was not until the fourth series that it was no longer able to maintain its high level, also because another problem arose: “I looked at the clock and was shocked that 36 minutes had already passed. I had the feeling that I had to go faster and then I couldn't bring that together in the fourth series with three eights. "
After the three eights at shots 35, 36 and 39 it was clear that it would not be enough for further up in the tableau. Nevertheless, Karsch drew an overall positive conclusion, also with regard to the sport pistol competition: “It was certainly more possible today, but I am satisfied with myself. It was important to start with the air pistol in order to get to know the processes and to gain experience for the sport pistol competition. From now on it's only about the sport pistol. "
