Since mountain biking (cross-country version) entered the Olympic program, France has comfortably acquired its habits on the podium with six medals in six editions (including four titles: Miguel Martinez in 2000, Julien Absalon in 2004 and 2008, before Julie Bresset in 2012). Only the countryside of Rio de Janeiro had brought torrents of tears. In Brazil, Pauline Ferrand-Prévôt, overwhelmed, injured, was forced to abandon after a long ordeal. Five years later, the Champenoise will be, at the age of 29, one of the two big favorites of the event (Tuesday, 8 a.m., French time) on the Izu circuit, 140 km from Tokyo, sharing the poster with Loana Lecomte (21), just out of the hopeful category (the Australian Rebecca McConnell or the Canadian Emily Batty may come to disturb the forecasts).
