Spain's Garbine Muguruza qualified for the second round of the women's singles tennis competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, after defeating Russian Veronika Kodermetova.
Muguruza, ranked ninth in the world, advanced to the second round after defeating Kudermetova in two sets without a response, 7-5, 7-5.
Muguruza will meet in the next round of the 49th-ranked Chinese Qiang Wang, who in turn defeated Veronica Sebedi of Paraguay.
