The swordsman, native of Boulogne-Billancourt, won against Hungarian Gergely Siklosi (15-10), world number one after a very close meeting.
As for all of his meetings of the day, Romain Cannone shot the first, in a first hanging period (4-4).
Led by a touch in the second half, he overthrew the Hungarian to finally win brilliantly.
Earlier in the day, the French had already released two of the favorites of these Olympic Games: the Ukrainian Ihor Reizlin (15-10) in the semi-final and the Russian Sergey Bida (15-12).
