Bizarre incident at the Olympics: Before the fight, the German judoka Martyna Trajdos is slapped by her trainer.
The scene in the video.
Tokyo - There are all sorts of forms of motivation - some need a lot of it, others little.
What motivates athletes is completely individual.
At the Olympics in Tokyo *, the audience got to know a new form of motivation.
The German judoka Martyna Trajdos let her trainer double-slap her before her fight against the Hungarian Szofi Özbas - and that was anything but gentle.
Eurosport showed the bizarre scene on live TV.

The clip was later also posted on Instagram.
First coach Claudiu Pusa shakes the athlete vigorously, then he gives her a resounding slap in the face.
Afterwards, Trajdos was probably wide awake for the fight, but it didn't help: After a long fight with her opponent in the weight class up to 63 kilograms, she had to admit defeat.
For people who have less to do with martial arts - and especially judo * - this motivational method seems rather strange.
But the fighter's reaction shows that she is by no means surprised that her trainer is violent.
Apparently, the two maintain a trusting relationship, as is customary in martial arts between coach and protégé.

Trajdos comments on the scene herself on her Instagram channel - and takes it with humor. “The way it looks, it wasn't hard enough,” she writes, nipping any concerns in the bud: “I wish I could have made a different headline. As I said before, this is a ritual that I choose myself before fighting. My trainer only does what I ask of him to motivate me. ”
