From Rio to Tokyo, a sad and striking contrast

2021-07-27T07:58:14.310Z

MOOD - After three days of competition, one thing is clear: the spirit of sharing of the Olympic Games is one more victim of Covid-19. Sad, but predictable.

Taking the Olympics as a snapshot of an era, it's crazy how much the world has changed in five years. From the furious madness of the Carioca city to the bitter impassibility of the Japanese capital, the rings would almost lose their color to adopt six shades of gray. Obviously, the Japanese culture is not for nothing in this observation. If the Brazilians have celebration in their blood, the same is not true of the Japanese, who are much more reserved. At first, at least. Now, it won't surprise anyone to say that the impact of the health crisis has literally destroyed the Olympic spirit, much more than the Olympian calm of the Japanese. What was unfortunately expected, but which, after three days of competition, isturns out even worse than initially feared.
