A reporter for Greek public television ERT was fired on Tuesday for racist remarks targeting a South Korean table tennis player competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

The journalist's comments targeted Greece's Panagiotis Gionis 4-3 loss to South Korea's Youngsik Jeoung and alluded to the latter's slanted eyes. ERT had already been the subject of criticism last week from politicians and Greek supporters, accusing it of ignoring the performances of Greek athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, in particular that of Eleftherios Petrounias in gymnastics, who had was not broadcast live last Saturday.
