The Spanish national basketball player Cristina Ouviña caused a stir with party pictures from the Olympic village in Tokyo on Instagram and then apologized.
“I was wrong to share this part of my Olympic experience, but I would like to emphasize that we athletes in Tokyo are all aware of the pandemic situation we live in and that we do not have contact with anyone outside the big bubble in the village should record, "wrote the 30-year-old on Tuesday on Instagram.
According to the Spanish media, the basketball player had previously published photos and videos in her Instagram story showing several athletes together in the Olympic village.
There you can also see playing cards and alcohol bottles on the tables, the athletes do not keep their distance and do not wear masks.
Ouviña then deleted the photos.
"I would like to apologize to those who may have been upset by the pictures (...)," she wrote.
All athletes "very much respected the health protocols set by the IOC and the Japanese authorities," said the athlete.
On Thursday, Spain will play the second group game against Serbia in the women's Olympic basketball tournament.
Ouviña and the Spaniards won the first game against South Korea on Monday.
