Frédéric Coury, Managing Director of Swedish Fit, a Swedish gym group class brand, explains why the discipline has become so popular.
How did the Swedish gym come about?
FRÉDÉRIC COURY.
In the 18th century, Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish serviceman established a method that was both fun and useful to keep his troops in shape. With doctors and physiotherapists, he developed choreographed sequences which were then taken up and modernized in the 1970s by Johan Holmsäter. This physical education teacher added music to the practice. Then a Swedish couple, Claude and Lena Coury, fitness school graduates in their country, then imported the concept to Paris. From there it will stay the same: work all the muscles in the body for 60 minutes and have fun before you think about physical performance. There is no competitive spirit, everyone goes at their own pace. This sport must be technically affordable for everyone.

Swedish Fit
What are the benefits?
Above all psychic.
The session will make you secrete a maximum of endorphins.
Well-being will come first through the mind, in any case it is one of the fundamental wills of the practice.
It should also be noted that from two or three sessions per week, practitioners notice progress in terms of posture, their muscles are strengthened, they gain in endurance and of course, the silhouette is emerging.
All of this contributes to being more comfortable in your body.
How to explain this craze?
Already, the name of the concept is talking about him. People wonder what this Swedish gym is so different from other gyms. A curiosity that pushes them to try. The enthusiasm can also be explained by the unifying and accessible nature of the courses. In a concentrated circle, the energy circulates in a very fluid way. It is one of our first feedbacks which gives the practice a community effect, almost viral. The proof is that she has already crossed borders to reach Switzerland, England and Canada.
