Al-Jalaa and Al-Nawair teams qualified for the semi-finals of the Republic Cup for the men’s category, by defeating Al-Uruba and Al-Hurriya in the first round of the competition.
Al-Jalaa reached the semi-finals by defeating Al-Orouba in the first leg matches in the first round with 130-75 points and 116-48 points, respectively, while a play-off match was resorted to in the second confrontation of the same round, which brought together the waterwheels with Al-Hurriya after the two teams exchanged wins back and forth.
In the first-leg match, Al-Hurriya won with a score of 98-88 points, and Al-Nowaeer won the second leg with a score of 79-76 points. The play-off ended with Al-Nowaeer winning 58-54 points, noting that the draw prevented Al-Jalaa, Al-Nawair, Al-Uruba and Al-Hurriya from entering the quarter-final matches.
Al-Jaish, Al-Ittihad and Al-Thawra teams qualified for the quarter-finals by winning back and forth in the first round over Al-Tale’a, Al-Wathba and Yarmouk teams, respectively. Al-Jaish beat Al-Taliaa 84-46 points and 56-46 points, while Al-Ittihad won Al-Wathba 81-73 points and 83-61 points As for Al Thawra, it beat Yarmouk 82-75 points and 90-75 points.
One match remains in the first round competitions to complete the contract of the teams qualified for the quarter-finals. It is scheduled to meet Al Wahda with Al Karama in a playoff match today, in which the winner will move to the next round after Al Wahda beat Al Karama in the second leg 76-69 points, knowing that Al Karama won in the first leg 84 -78 points.
Al-Thawra team had won the Republic Cup for women's basketball by defeating Al-Jalaa with a score of 66-54 points in the final match that brought them together at Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus on the fourth of last month.
