A day without fencing and with two premature eliminations in judo, it is immediately less medals for the France team.
Fortunately, this Wednesday July 28, a little too calm for the Blues, began with a fireworks display, offered by the rowers Matthieu Androdias and Hugo Boucheron, who won, in a couple, the 3rd French gold medal.
It was in the middle of the night, at 3.30 am French time.
Since then, the French have had ups and downs.
Here are the highlights to remember from this Wednesday.
The medal: gold at the end of the rowing effort
They couldn't take it any longer on arrival.
In particular Hugo Boucheron who could not let go of a word in the mixed zone at the arrival of the Olympic final of the couple.
But with his partner Matthieu Androdias, they achieved the most beautiful French performance of the day, which they had come to seek in Tokyo: the gold medal in two couples.
At the cost of an impressive effort, they managed to contain the return of the Dutch boat and to impose themselves on the wire.
To offer the French delegation the third Marseillaise of these Games, after swordsman Romain Cannone and judokate Clarisse Agbégnénou.

The chocolate medal: frustrated 3 x 3 basketball girls
For a first at the Olympics, the new discipline of 3 x 3 basketball has seduced.
Intense, fast, spectacular: these matches on the half courts were a pleasure to watch.
And they almost smiled at the French qualified in the semi-finals.
But, after two frustrating defeats, halfway against the United States (18-16) with a final more than questionable referee decision, and in the match for the bronze medal against China (16-14), Laetitia Guapo, Ana Filip, Migna Touré and Marie-Eve Paget find themselves in the worst place: 4th, at the foot of the podium.
They have already promised to take their revenge in Paris in 2024.
The flop: humiliated, the Blues of football are already on the plane
After a correction against Mexico (4-1) at the opening then a miraculous victory against South Africa (4-3), the French football team still had its destiny in its hands to qualify for the phase Olympic tournament final.
Japan still had to be beaten.
André-Pierre Gignac's teammates have done the opposite: corrected 4-0 by these unknown Japanese, they are pitifully eliminated and will return to France earlier than expected.
"We were put sticks in the wheels", deplores Gignac, in reference to the complicated constitution of this group of players for the Games.

The disappointments: judo does not respond, volleyball is buried
First day without a medal for French judo.
Axel Clerget (-90 kg) was taken out in the round of 16, shortly after Margaux Pinot (-70 kg) beaten in the first round.
In volleyball, Laurent Tillie's players narrowly lost (3-2, 15-13 in the last set) against Argentina and are seriously complicating the task for a qualification.
Hopes: hand and basketball at the rendezvous, the tennis players surprise
Full of mastery, the French men's basketball and handball teams continue their flawless performance.
The basketball players easily defeated the Czech Republic (97-77), while the Handball Experts contained the Germans (30-29).
The teammates of Nicolas Batum and Nikola Karabatic are scary and can more than ever dream of a podium.
Less expected, the last French representatives in tennis also ensured: Jérémy Chardy (against Briton Liam Broady) and Ugo Humbert (against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas) qualified for the quarter-finals.
They are only two games away from the medal.
The shock: the withdrawal of Simone Biles
She had to be one of the superstars of those games.
The American gymnast Simone Biles preferred to withdraw from the individual all-around, confirming what we expected at the end of the team competition.
To preserve her "sanity", the four-time gold medalist in Rio has chosen to give up.
And at the same time places the debate on the psychological health of athletes at the center of the Olympic village.
His decision shows unprecedented courage and sincerity 💙.
Simone Biles has nothing to prove.
It will mark the history of sport and the #Olympic Games.
