The Germany eight missed the big goal at the Olympic Games and won silver in Tokyo.

The German parade boat had to admit defeat in the final on the Sea Forest Waterway New Zealand, but secured the German Rowing Association (DRV) with the second medal in Japan at the end of the competitions.

Bronze went to Great Britain.

In Rio, the crew around batsman Hannes Ocik was clearly beaten by the British at the games five years ago.

Most recently, the DRV's flagship won gold at the 2012 Summer Games in London.
