Thirteen years after his Olympic debut, Teddy Riner regains bronze but not a smile.
Beaten in the quarterfinals by Russian world number one Tamerlan Bashaev, he managed to bounce back this Friday at noon and proved that he was anything but his place far from the podiums.
The 13th French medal, the 7th for judo after that of Dicko a few minutes earlier.
The two-time Olympic champion won his small final against the Japanese Hisayoshi Harasawa, the revenge of the 2016 final and a duel that smelled good for gold at the start of the day for prognosticators and judo legend Tadahiro Nomura.
Harasawa was declared the loser in the “golden score” after three shidos.
Note that Teddy Riner will have the opportunity to take a second revenge on Saturday thanks to the team tournament.
