Britain won its first-ever Olympic gold in the mixed triathlon today, adding a third medal to its tally in the sport in Tokyo.
Britain came first after finishing the race in one hour, 23 minutes and 41 seconds. The United States won the silver medal, while the bronze medal went to France.
The mixed triathlon competitions will be held with the participation of two men and two women, and each contestant completes events consisting of swimming 300 meters, cycling 6.8 kilometers and jogging for two kilometers before his teammate completes the competition.
Britain's Jessica Learmonth started the triathlon competitions vigorously, as she led the swimming stage at the beginning, and the supremacy was reinforced by Johnny Brownlee, the silver medalist of the Rio Olympics and the bronze of the London Games in singles, and the difference reached nine seconds after the second stage.
Georgia Taylor Brown and teammate Alex Yee, both an Olympic silver medalist in the singles event last week, maintained Britain's lead in the second half in strong sunshine before the competitors fell to the ground from exhaustion.
