BMX rider Connor Fields from the USA suffered a cerebral haemorrhage in his serious fall in the semifinals of the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Fields had lost control of his bike in his third semi-final run at Ariake Urban Sports Park and fell headfirst to the ground.

The Frenchman Sylvain André and Twan van Gendt from the Netherlands could no longer evade and collided with Fields.

Another debate about the risk of falling

"After a night in intensive care, doctors are allowed to report that there has been no additional bleeding and no further injuries have been found," the message said.

Fields' parents also spoke up via Facebook and thanked them for the great sympathy since yesterday.

His father is quoted on USA Today as saying, “He's cognitively fine.

He knows who he is, he knows his date of birth, he recognizes people. "

Fields' fall was just one of several in the semi-finals.

The debate about the risk of falling in BMX races is not new, but it has flared up again after the events of Friday.
