The double for the RS: X sail!
After the experienced Charline Picon, Thomas Goyard grabbed the silver medal after the Medal Race.
The Frenchman was however disqualified from this last race of the competition, due to a “stolen start”.
Second before this regatta, the Frenchman had a good start, taking advantage of the disqualifications of his two direct rivals in the medal race: the Italian Mattia Camboni and the Pole Piotr Myszka, third and fourth in the general classification, quickly sanctioned for starting Fly.
After checking the officials, the Frenchman was finally penalized for the same reason, after his first lap, and received 22 penalty points.
Almost assured of the title even before starting the race, the Dutchman Kiran Badloe, finished second in this last regatta and won his first Olympic gold medal.
Chinese Kun Bi completes the podium.
Thomas Goyard succeeds Pierre Le Coq, bronze medalist at the Olympic Games in Rio.
16th medal for the French clan!
