Munich / Tokyo - Finally gold again for Germany!

Alexander Zverev ended the three-day dry spell of the German athletes in Tokyo with his Olympic victory in the tennis tournament and, by the way, led Team D back to the top 10 in the medal table *.

Zverev had repeatedly emphasized that he not only played for himself, but for the whole country and all other athletes.

His success could now give his teammates new strength and courage for the upcoming competitions.

Monday * again offers promising medal chances for the German team in Japan, including in eventing, where a drama took place around the German team.

Olympic news from Monday: Drama about German eventing riders - protest rejected

The three-time Olympic champion Michael Jung remains tenth in the classification after the cross-country ride of versatility and is thus far behind in the battle for the medals.

"Unfortunately, the protest has been rejected," wrote Jung on his Instagram account: "I'll keep the eleven penalty points."

Jung had led after the dressage, but on his gelding Chipmunk he made an obstacle error in the terrain on the Sea Forest peninsula.

After a minimal touch, the safety mechanism, the so-called MIM system, was triggered - which surprised Jung.

Chipmunk "certainly touched the corner a bit, but not in a way that I expected the bar to fall down."

The 39-year-old boy is now relying on the team, although it slipped from second to sixth.

"I still believe in it," said Jung about the medal chance of the German trio.

"We have to keep fighting, we all have to ride zero, in the end it will be settled," he said.

Olympic news from Monday: Krajewski wants to ride for gold - Swiss horse euthanized

Julia Krajewski, who made a gala appearance with her mare Amande, has great chances of winning a medal. Before the final competition on Monday (10 a.m.), the 32-year-old from Warendorf is silver with just 25.60 penalty points. If she stays clear and the leading Briton Oliver Townend has a throw with Ballaghmor Class (23.60) in one of the two rounds, it would even be gold. "I think we did everything right," said Krajewski, commenting on her famous cross-country ride with tears in his eyes.

At the beginning of the year her “father passed away, who would be incredibly happy to see this”, said the rider: “I am happy to make everyone a little happy who always do everything for me.”

The cross-country test was overshadowed by the death of the 14-year-old gelding Jet Set owned by the Swiss Robin Godel.

The horse had torn a ligament in the right front leg when landing in the last water combination, as the umbrella organization Swiss Olympic explained.

"Due to the severity of the injury and the associated pain, the horse had to be put to sleep shortly afterwards," said a statement.

Olympic news from Monday: Rotter-Focken is fighting for gold

In addition to the versatility competition, Germany can also hope for precious metal in other sports. In the wrestling * Aline Rotter-Focken fights for gold in the last duel of her career in the class up to 76 kilograms against the world champion Adeline Gray. Rio Olympic champion Christian Reitz has the best chances of reaching the final with the rapid-fire pistol in shooting. At the start of the track cycling competitions, Emma Hinze and Lea Sophie Friedrich are among the favorites in the women's team sprint.

Before Enoshima, the German sailing crews are also on the precious metal course. Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke can even squint for gold as third overall before the medal race in the 49erFX. In the 49er, Erik Heil and Thomas Plößel hope to repeat their success in Rio 2016 with bronze in the Medal Race. Don't miss a thing here.
