The
ninth day of the
Olympic Games
gives another medal to the Spanish delegation: Ray Zapata has taken silver in the floor final behind the Israeli Artem Dolgopyat, who obtained exactly the same score as the Spanish, 14,933, but took gold due to the greater difficulty of his exercise. It is the first Spanish gymnastics medal since Gervasio Deferr's silver on the ground in Beijing 2008. In the triple jump final, Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas made history by breaking the world record on her last attempt: 15.67m. It was in that same test, with the Portuguese Patricia Mamona, silver, in which the Galician Ana Peleteiro beat the Spanish record twice to take the bronze with a jump of 14.87m. Spain already has seven metals. In swimming, Caeleb Dressel broke the Olympic record of 50 freestyle and participated in the world record in 4x100 strokes.And in the star test of the day, the final of the 100m sprint, the Italian Lemon Marcell Jacobs, with a time of 9.80s, became the heir to Usain Bolt. Jacobs is the new Olympic champion.
In team sports, the Spanish men's handball team closed the group stage with a victory against Argentina (36-27) heading to the quarterfinals.
The women's basketball team beat Canada (66-76) and will avoid playing the US in that round as well.
The men's team fell (87-95) to Doncic's Slovenia, who they struggled to annul throughout the match.
The team led by Ricky and the Gasol brothers will go to the quarterfinals as second in group C and will face the United States.
It was the men's hockey team that did not make it to the semifinals, which was eliminated 3-1 by world champion Belgium.
