With a new silver medal, the Manaudou clan now has seven Olympic medals. A record in France for one and the same

It was one of the strongest and most moving images of the London 2012 Olympic Games. A few seconds after Florent Manaudou's victory in the 50m freestyle, Laure, his eldest, rushed down the stands, in tears, to come hug his brother.

Eight years earlier, in Athens, Florent was also there to follow the exploits of his big sister, crowned at 17, in the 400m freestyle.

In Tokyo, the former swimmer was unable to make the trip, health restrictions require, but she did not fail to follow the feat of her brother, who won a second silver medal at his favorite distance, five after that of Rio.

“My brother is a legend, I love you,” she wrote in her Instagram story.

From swimming to the marathon, Laure Manaudou, a life of challenges

With this new distinction, the collection of the Manaudou clan is expanding even more to include 7 medals.

For Laure, gold in the 400m freestyle, silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 100m backstroke, three podiums won in Athens in 2004. For Florent: gold therefore, in London, two medals. silver in Rio, over 50m and 4 x 100m, and this new silver medal in Tokyo.

The Ambérieu (Ain) family has become one of the most awarded families in the history of the Olympic Games. Before them, we will remember, for example, that of the Kellers, German field hockey specialists. Erwin, Carsten, Andreas, Florian, Natasha and Anke won eight Olympic medals (four gold and four silver), out of nine Olympic Games, between 1936 and 2008. On the French side, nobody did so well!
