The 25-year-old Venezuelan erased a 26-year-old performance from the shelves… It was held by Inessa Kravets, whose previous world record was measured at 15.50 m, on August 10, 1995, during the final of the Championships of the world in Gothenburg.
Yulimar Rojas therefore jumped 17 cm further than the Ukrainian.
She had been circling around this record for months without managing to beat it - she had notably achieved the 2nd all-time performance on May 22 in Andujar (Spain) - it is now done.
Double world champion (2017, 2019) and silver medalist at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Yulimar Rojas won the only major title missing from her record, becoming the first woman from her country to capture a medal of gold at the Olympics.
The podium of this very high level triple jump competition is completed by the Portuguese Patricia Mamona who with a jump of 15.01 m breaks the national record. Spain's Ana Peleteiro wins bronze with 14.87m, which is also her country's record.
