Twice gold and two silver - day ten in Tokyo was an extremely successful one for the German Olympic participants.

And the triumphs that were celebrated were of historical dimension:

Aline Rotter-Focken

was the first German female wrestler to ever win an Olympic medal - and then gold.

Julia Krajewski

was the first rider to win the eventing competitions in the individual decision.

Discus thrower

Kristin Pudenz

, who won silver in a chaotic competition

, caused a surprising success

.

It was the first athletics medal in Tokyo for Germany.

Lea Sophie Friedrich and Emma Hinze took

silver in the track bike team sprint

early on on the tenth day of the competition

.

The best comes last

After these games it's over,

Aline Rotter-Focken

had already announced that in advance.

The 30-year-old is the most successful female athlete among German women wrestlers, won gold at world championships in 2014, silver in 2017 and bronze in 2015 and 2019.

She delayed her last fight in Tokyo a little longer, fought her way up to the final against five-time world champion Adeline Gray - where she defeated the favorite 7: 3.

"I'll be drawing from this moment for years to come," said the wrestler after the fight.

"I've been joking for years, I'll save this for the perfect ending."

Without discards to gold

When it comes to riding, the German Olympic participants are always good for a medal, as the games in Tokyo showed again.

So far, however, no female rider had succeeded in winning the individual events in eventing.

That is over now:

Julia Krajewski

won gold at the games in Japan with mare Amande de B'Neville.

With a total of 26.00 penalty points, she prevailed ahead of the British Tom McEwen on Toledo De Kerser (29.30) and the Australian Andrew Hoy with Vassiliy de Lassos (29.60).

After fourth place in dressage and a flawless cross-country ride, the 32-year-old took the lead with two faultless rounds in jumping.

Pudenz defies the rain chaos

The rain made it difficult for organizers and athletes to throw discus.

At the end of a chaotic competition, which was interrupted for an hour in the meantime, there was a surprising silver medal for

Kristin Prudenz

and thus the first German athletics medal in Tokyo.

The German champion was second with a new personal best of 66.86 meters, only Valarie Allman (68.98) from the USA continued.

World champion Yaime Perez from Cuba (65.72) took bronze.

Track bike silver in the team sprint

The Izu Velodrome in Tokyo set the best times at these games in rows. The German track bike riders

Emma Hinze

and partner

Lea Sophie Friedrich

undercut the German record in the course of the competitions, in the semifinals they even stayed below the old world record. In the final, both were racing again - but Zhong Tianshi and Bao Shanju from China were, as in the previous races, faster than the German drivers.

For the duo, the gap of eight hundredths of a second meant silver at the games in Japan.

"Both of them are incredibly ambitious," says national coach Detlef Uibel about his athletes.

If you are like that, then silver is first of all a "small disappointment".

However, there will probably be even more opportunities for a gold medal for Friedrich (21 years old) and Hinze (23) in the future.

First transgender athlete at the Olympics

In Tokyo, the first female athlete in Olympic history to openly change her gender identity took part in the competitions:

Laurel Hubbard

.

43-year-old Hubbard was assigned the male gender at birth, which she had lived with for 35 years.

In Tokyo, the weightlifter competed in the weight class over 87 kilograms at the games, but was eliminated after three unsuccessful attempts.

Their participation in the competitions had sparked discussions in advance.

The Lord of the Wrestlers triumphs again

Cuban

Mijain Lopez Nunez became the

first male wrestler to win

four Olympic gold medals.

After 2008, 2012 and 2016, the almost two meter tall exceptional athlete also triumphed in Tokyo.

In the final of the weight class up to 130 kilograms, he clearly defeated the Georgian Jakobi Kajaia 5-0.

Lopez is now the most successful male athlete in the discipline's Olympic history - ahead of Russian Alexander Karelin, who won three golds and one silver between 1988 and 2000.

The 38-year-old, who had postponed the end of his career because of the postponement of the games, has also been crowned world champion five times.

Short and sweet

Belarusian sprinter

Kristina Timanowskaja

applies for asylum in Poland.

The country previously offered her asylum after she reported in a video that she would be flown out of Japan against her will.

She is accused of publicly criticizing Belarusian sports officials.

Simone Biles

wants to return to the competitions after her break due to mental problems.

The four-time Olympic champion was officially registered for the medal decision on the balance beam on Tuesday.

Too weak winds led to the

cancellation of the Olympic sailing races

.

This also affected the medal races of the women's 49er FX with the German starters Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke and the men's 49er with Erik Heil and Thomas Plößel.

The

German hockey women

were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Against Argentina, the bronze winners from Rio 2016 lost 3-0 (2-0) after a weak game.

The

US soccer world champions

did not live up to their favorite status.

In the semi-finals, the team around US star Megan Rapinoe lost to the underdog Canada 0: 1 (0: 0).

Runner Sifan Hassan

won gold over the 5000 meters.

The 28-year-old Dutch woman was 14: 36.79 minutes ahead of Helen Obiri from Kenya (14: 38.36 minutes) and the Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay (14: 38.87).

The top runner fell just a few hours earlier in the 1500 meter run and was still the first to cross the finish line.

The American shot

putter Raven Saunders

could face the first sentence for a "political" protest at a medal ceremony during the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The 25-year-old, who won silver on Sunday, crossed her arms raised above her head on the podium.
