25 years after Ilke Wyludda, Kristin Pudenz has again won an Olympic medal for Germany in discus throwing.
The German champion won silver with a new personal best of 66.86 meters.
Only Olympic champion Valarie Allman (68.98) from the USA was stronger in the competition, which was affected by a one-hour rain break.
World champion Yaime Perez from Cuba (65.72) took bronze.
Pudenz won the first medal at the games for the German Athletics Association (DLV).
Marike Steinacker finished eighth with 62.02 meters, Claudine Vita (61.80) finished ninth.
