The Ethics Committee of the International Football Association “FIFA” issued a decision banning Cameroonian Issa Hayatou, former president of the Confederation of African Football, from participating in any activity related to the game for a period of one year.
FIFA said in a statement, “After an extensive hearing, the Judicial Chamber ruled, based on the information gathered by the Investigation Chamber, that Hayatou had breached his duty of loyalty in his position as CAF President by entering, on behalf and on behalf of the Confederation, into an anti-competitive agreement with the French company Lagardère Sport, which caused Serious damage to CAF, estimated at more than $11 million, as well as its reputation.
In addition to the suspension, the committee imposed a fine of 30,000 Swiss francs on Hayatou due to violations in the signing of the memorandum of understanding and the contractual agreement for media marketing and marketing rights for competitions organized by CAF with the French company between 2014 and 2017.
CAF had appointed Hayatou as honorary president of the Confederation of African Football, and accordingly he would be absent from attending any CAF conferences during the coming period.
